Annual Guru Purnima Vrat Yajna (A Multi Kunda Gayatri Havan)

Guru Purnima Vrat Yajna is an Annual event held by the Himalayan Tradition – a group of disciples of Guruji Swami Veda Bharati. Formerly known as Pandit Usharbudh Arya, Mahamandaleshwara Swami Veda Bharati is the Disciple of Swami Rama of the Himalayas and the Founder of the Association of Himalayan Yoga Meditation Societies International (AHYMSIN) and Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG).

All aspirants who are on a serious Spiritual Journey are invited, encouraged to attend and join in this event to raise their own individual Spiritual Awareness. This Annual Yajna – hosted by volunteers each year (this year hosted by Mataji Bhojwatie Chandrica) focuses on establishing discipline in our lives as taught by our Guruji Swami Veda Bharati.

Guruji has always encouraged us to ‘First make ourselves Noble’ so that we can better fulfill our higher goal of Krinvanto Vishvam Aryam – or helping our fellow man to also become noble. For many years Guruji Swami Veda has encouraged his disciples to continuously work on establishing discipline in their lives. With this idea in mind, he has always asked his disciples to look at the date of Guru Purnima and count back 40 days. For these 40 days, he suggested that his disciples implement some change in their lives to instill discipline. As we know, anything done continuously for 40 days becomes habit and this is what he encouraged us to do.

During this Vrat Yajna, all attendees are encouraged to undertake a Vrat (vow) – some form of ‘tapah’ – penance or sacrifice in their lives for approximately 35 to 40 days. This can be a vow to meditate daily, pray daily, fast daily, abstain from certain foods or drinks for this period, begin and continue an exercise program for this period, or any other self-betterment vow from the day of this Yajna until the day of Guru Purnima which falls on June 8th this year (2019).

Each summer during the 40 days that precede Guru Purnima, sadhakas are invited to participate in the 40-Day Spiritual Festival, to expand and refine one’s sadhana. Click here to see Article on Swamiji’s request to his disciples.

This is an outdoor Yajna and all are encouraged to participate in chanting and making of ahutis – offerings of samaghri and ghee. Please bring your own Havan Kunda, sheets and ground cover for the sheets, Havan items – samaghri, ghee, dhoop, etc. We will have extra Havan items available for those who do not have. If you are attending alone, feel free to join others at their Havan Kunda.
